[comp.sys.next] upgrade survey: the results

mdixon@parc.xerox.com (Mike Dixon) (02/10/91)

of the 41 replies, 14 had received their 040 boards (4 in the past 4 days).

average wait by those who have received them: 2 months
(80% of the replies were from people who ordered over 2 months ago)

priorities seem to be:
registered developers (5 of 6 received)
    cube+upgrade deal (2/3)
    universities (7/32)
too few b-land data points to be sure, but clearly also low priority (0/2)

here are the data points, sorted by order date:

 date qty where date advance
ordered recvd 2.0?

(* = ordered under the "buy an 030 cube, get an 040 upgrade" deal)

people reported dates to varying degrees of precision; i've omitted
the error bars...

two people mentioned having received "the famous xeroxed form letter
from Steve Jobs".

there were also a couple of second hand data points, which pretty much
fit the same profile:
dupont@cpsc.ucalgary.ca: 030 cube+040 upgrade deal, ordered Nov received Dec
madler@pooh.caltech.edu: ordered in fall, received Jan 15
azure@Terman293-NX1.Stanford.edu: developer ordered Nov, received in Jan
