I have heared, that X11R3 is beeing underway for the NeXT (is supposed to run within a window). Does anyone know how far this project is, and where the source will be available? Ron

Some time ago mention was made of an implementation of X windows running under Next Step. I believe the project was undertaken by someone at or from MIT. Did anything ever come of this effort? Is some form of access to X available through any other avenues? Question 2: is anyone aware of a SLIP port to the NeXT? -------------------------------- Rick Morrison | {alberta,uw-beaver,uunet}!ubc-cs!morrison Dept. of Computer Science| morrison@cs.ubc.ca Univ. of British Columbia| morrison%ubc.csnet@csnet-relay.arpa Vancouver, B.C. I am running the NeXT via a slip connection but not native. I have a cheap floppy only ibm pc xt (at best). I have an old ethernet card in it and run Karn code . It is hooked to the next via the ethernet and etc etc. I suspect that the ethernet line for the NeXT is a much better way than via the rs232 whose driver is probably less than optimum. All runs well and there is no pain. I know, it's a shame to ask for an X window server in this Newsgroup, but I really want to have a Next on my desktop, and therefore I need a X server to use our Symbolics Ivory boards residing in a SunSPARC. The main problem is the Next Keyboard and the 2-button mouse as the Ivory operating system Genera relies heavily on extra keys like meta, super, hyper, control and various combinations like c-m-sh-leftButton etc. So, does anybody has an idea how to solve this problems to help me justifying a Next deal? Summarizing the problems are: 1) Is there an X Window server (X11R4)? 2) Is there a bigger keyboard and/or 3-button mouse as 3rd party product? 3) Does anybody has experience with Genera via a Next? Thanks a lot. Bernd. ============================================================================== Bernd Wild bwild@fzi.uka.de Forschungszentrum Informatik FZI Dept.
