I said that NeXT marketing focus seems to be towards faculty and staff.
You may choose to read this as "students are unimportant." I, on the
other hand, think that faculty and staff have more money to buy
expensive computers. Tell me, does Sun woo students to buy SparcStations
at your school?

I'm not sure what this has to do with NeXT computer systems. Perhaps
you should talk with your professors.

Again, I'm not sure what this has to do with NeXT computers.

Good luck. I waited over 2 years before I could afford to buy a machine.

>effort because I thought that NeXT wanted students and I know I

NeXT doesn't want faculty, staff, students or businessmen. They
want customers. Is this a hard concept to wrap your brain around,
or are you just not thinking clearly?

>people been so instructive in helping me - a lowly STUDENT. There do I

What makes you think I speak for NeXT or the University of Texas?

>NeXT is interested in students and if we are being allowed a part of

You seem to be making an intuitive leap right off the edge of the trampoline.
Students can buy NeXT equipment at a discount, just like faculty.
Clearly, therefore, you are "allowed a part of higher education."

>implied. We might need a student revolt to reclaim the respect we

Proper education helps prevent us from looking like a fool in public.

So why are you posting?

>am closer tha I have ever been to getting one. Is is all for naught? I

I'm in lots of minorities.

No problem.

Yes Jerry, there is a Santa Claus!

Seriously, I think NeXT cares about students. They set up the whole
Campus Consultants with students... Not faculty or Staff. They wanted
people out "in the field" who could relate to the needs of academia
not from the point of view of $$$ of a campus bookstore, or the
$$$ of grant money, but really to see how students would use their
machines. The Campus Consultants are a good metric of NeXT's
commitment to students.

Absolutely. I've had nothing but great experiences with the campus
consultants here at UT. (And certainly, NeXT has been more than kind
whenever I call their tech. support people.) This is one reason why
I feel less nervous about spending so much money on a computer.
(In other words, have you ever tried calling Apple tech support? :))

DANGER! WARNING! DANGER!

Don't make the assumption that he speaks for NeXT. Even if the
address were "josborn@next.com" I wouldn't assume he spoke for NeXT.
I doubt that NeXT considers the students unimportant (of course I
don't speek for NeXT either).

I agree with the above. NeXT does have a commitment to students.
Also maybe nobody ever addressed them with the idea of a third party
organization for financing. If nobody ever brings it to their attention
the issue will never get answered.

Before flaming someone (NeXT) in the future Jerry get a definitive answer
first, sdaying if it is a possibility or not.
