Problem: I get the Console error messages shown below when I use the HSD Scan-X scanner and when I run Rory Bolt's SCSI hard drive formatting software. As far as I can tell, it has never happen with any other application. The scans come out fine on the screen, but there are many long pauses during the scan and once in a while, the system would freeze part way through a scan. I went through many scans (difference sizes and resolutions) and I couldn't establish any consistent pattern or cause for the error messages. Sometimes, when running Rory Bolt's formatting software, the error messages would start to spew out as soon as the application has been loaded or when I click on the HELP or SCSI-ID button (I haven't try the actual FORMAT feature yet). There were also several times when the application runs without any error messages. This is most puzzling! The following is a sample of the error messages I get on the Console: sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 1 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 2 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 3 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 4 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 5 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 6 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 7 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 8 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 9 sd0: Incomplete disk transfer - FATAL sd0: Incomplete disk transfer; bytes moved = 0x2000, resid = 0x2000, retry 1 ... etc ... System configuration: Cube with 68040 processor (upgraded in December, 1990) 16MB RAM NeXT 256MB optical drive Micropolis 1588-15 600+MB hard drive (SCSI-ID=1, terminated) HSD Scan-X Professional scanner (SCSI-ID=5, terminated, NeXT SCSI2-SCSI1 cable) System 2.0 operating system NeXT Laser Printer Dove Fax fax modem on serial port A Cube, scanner, and fax modem are hooked up to an uninterruptible power supply Other facts: 1) Rory's application was compiled on an '030 system (possibly running System 1.0). Both HSD and NeXT are quite puzzled at the problem. I welcome any suggestions or ideas you can contribute toward solving this problem.
