[comp.sys.next] Encyclopedias for NeXT?

mikel@Apple.COM (Mikel Evins) (02/18/91)

Does anyone know whether any of the Encyclopedias that
are offered on CD ROM are available to NeXT users?
I know, for example, that Grolier's is available in
versions for the Mac and PC Clones. Is it available,
or can it be used, with the NeXT?

I would ideally like to get a decent encyclopedia
(perhaps Grolier's or Compton's) on CD ROM for the
NeXT with a pre-generated index for Digital Librarian,
but I would be interested as well in whether the NeXT
can read, for example, the Grolier's that is available
for the Mac. I haven't paid a lot of attention to
the information about NeXT CD ROM support, I'm afraid.

The Mac and PC versions of the Grolier's CD encyclopedia are the
same. The only differences are the access software. The actual CD
is shared between the two systems. My point, then, is that if you're
willing to write the actual software yourself, all you need is the
actual CD.
