Recently, I acquired an external Maxtor hard drive which I connected to my
NeXTstation with a SCSI2->SCSI1 cable I got from NeXTConnection. Everything
seems to be working fine except for a few minor problems. The following is
what appears on my ROM monitor when I boot. Maybe someone out there can
figure out what is causing my problems.

As I'm sure you can tell, I'm not connected to a network. I think that some of
my problems stem from the way I have set up my system. Through a long process,
I managed to copy the Extended Release 2.0 stuff to my internal HD after I
deleted the wimpy /usr, /private, /bin, and /etc. I think that there might be
some problems with file access priviliges, but I didn't see any when I did a
quick look through them.

The above error messages bother me, and I would like to get rid of them, but
the following problems are more urgent:
1) When I try to drag files which reside on my external HD, I get the
following message:
"Folder : .... is located on a disk without a recycler.
Continuing will destroy it, do you want to continue?"
Question: How do I put a recycler on this HardDrive?
2) The File Viewer informs me of the amount of space available on the
filesystem that I am currently selected on. (in the upper left hand
corner underneath the home directory icon) The problem is that it
tells me this: "6.64 meg available on external disk" when I am selected
on my internal 100 meg drive. I know this is my internal, because I get
the message: "69.7 meg available external disk" when I am selected on my
external hard drive. Other NeXT systems display the message without
the use of the word external when selected on an internal drive.
How do I remedy this situation?
3) Most importantly of all, my system does not recognize DOS floppies.
Even after using BuildDOS, the Workspace Manager asks me if I want
to format the diskette in the drive. Previously formatted floppies
also give me that error.
Have I screwed up file permissions somewhere? I know that all files
are present. I need to be able to use DOS floppies in order to transfer
files from my home system to work.
