Here is a feature that I had been longing for on the Mac and since I have switched computers I wouldlike it on the NeXT. I would like to be able to shutdown the machine and have *everything* come back the way it was before shutdown. Everything mostly includes the window positions of open applications and the corresponding files. Now if I am not on a network, where the accessablility of files may change, it seems that this is quite achievable. In the case where a file that used to exist is missing (network wise) the application can still activate. It would be a great benefit by removing this burden from the user. The simple autoboot feature of the next and mac are just the first step in this feature space. It is much harder for mac applications to do this since they dont have a standard object layer between them and the workspace, the next does, in fact isn't Shutdown already a message that is send to apps? As a final note, the HP workstations already do this. Other workstations will follow and they will be that much easier to use. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark Interrante Software Engineering Research Center mfi@serc.cis.ufl.edu CIS Department, University of Florida 32611 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote from a west Texas farmer "status quo is Latin for the mess we're in."
