This posting is for a friend w/o net access. Information may be sketchy. If you need more, tell me what to ask him. He has a bran dnew '040 Next, a SCSI<->GPIB interface driving a film recorder, and a QIC-150 SCSI tape drive filched from a Silicon Graphics machine. At boot time, the disc in the Next is probed OK, plus a `generic SCSI'[?] at target 7 lun 7, and no more. He can successfully talk to the film recorder. He cannot talk to the tape. The tape is an Archive Crop Viper 150. On the SGI, it lived at SCSI address 2; I suggested 4 by analogy with most other workstations but that didn't work either. There don't appear to be any terminators on the tape drive (but in my experience terminator problems are not as hard as what he reports anyway). The minor device numbers for the tape devices in /dev are 0 and 1, but neither MAKEDEV nor the manual pages seem to document the mapping of SCSI addresses to device numbers (I was asking him to read manual pages down the phone...) All suggestions/help appreciated (including pointers to relevant docn! Please reply by Email, as I only occasionally visit this newsgroup. -- Ian D.
