I have been having a problem trying to use /usr/etc/disk to initalize my new Quantum disk. I had successfully used BuildDisk on it, then decided to try again and get 1024-byte sectors. This didn't work - apparently it was formatted to 512-bytes at the factory and can't be reformatted. So I want to fix it back to 512-bytes. BuildDisk still works fine, but I can't mount the system as anything but a boot drive (/mount can't find it!). I am using the same fstab file as before I tried refomatting. When I try using /usr/etc/disk to re-initialize and reformat, I get the message that /usr/etc/newfs failed (status 1). Does anybody know what this means? If it turns out to be a hardware error, technical support at APS, where I bought the drive, will bail me out. If not hardware, what is it? I need to somehow get the drive to mount, not as boot, in order to remove enough stuff off of it that it doesn't hang right after booting. BuildDisk fills it right up to the top. -Martha Schaefer
