Here is a SCSI compatibility list that I have started for the NeXT. Please send any addition/changes to me (cyliax@ecn.purdue.edu) and I will add them to the list. Please included any special 'magic' you had to do to make it work so I can add special 'notes'. It has been suggested to make this list available on a NeXT archive site. Any suggestions ? There have been some reports that some harddisks setup for synchronous SCSI work under 2.0 on a '040, but are not able to boot from these drives. Has anyone else seen this ? Wren IV-376 disk ??? ??? yes Wren V-376 disk ??? ??? yes e) Wren VI-776 disk yes yes yes Notes: a) needs a program to initialize the drive properly b) only through /dev/sg0 c) use 'setmtd' to set driver to 'fixed block' mode d) turn off SCSI-2 inquiry e) 1024 byte/sector not tested as boot disk. f) needs special program to initilize the drive properly, should be ordered pre-formatted for 1024 byte block g) SA is 512 bytes/block, SB is 1024 bytes/block preformatted. block size also jumper selectable before low level format. turn off synchronous I/O. h) not tested with Sierra Filesystem CDROMs. i) read/writes extended length DC6250 tapes ??? no report that it will work. If it runs on a '030 under 2.0, it will probably run on a '040 as well.
