At last, another guy that admits to skid practice in snowy (deserted,
I assume) parking lots.  I happen to think this is really important.
Besides learning the correct reflexes, it teaches you not to panic
in a skid situation.  I think it should be required for a driving
license.  (It's also fun.)

In the same vein, for motorcycles, I think a year or so in the dirt
makes you that much more likely to survive in the real world.  Follow
it up with some rainy parking lot practice (wear heavy clothes) and
your chances improve even more.  (I also took a tumbling class that
I believe kept me from breaking bones on a couple of occasions.)

You can't legislate safety.  More laws don't make you a safe driver.
It's up to us to take responsibility for our own actions.
