I was listening to my modem dialing in the other day and something struck me: 1. The NeXT has an A/D converter 2. The NeXT has a D/A converter 3. The NeXT has two serial ports 4. The NeXT has a built in microphone and speaker Given all this, would it be possible to... use the NeXT as a telephone by hooking up a telephone line to a serial port? You could talk into the microphone and whatever the person on the other side said would go through the speaker. Could this be done or are there some hardware limitations? If this is possible, it could even be extended to having the NeXT double as an answering machine, and maybe you could also record conversations. Imagine being able to store up voice mail just like you do with e-mail. Eventually, with programs like sphinx, you could convert a conversation to text - the audio equivalent of OCR on printed text.
