[comp.sys.next] if you are thinking of buying subscription to NeXTWorld...

sulistio@FUTON.SFSU.EDU (Sulistio Muljadi) (03/15/91)

I paid a subscription to NeXTWorld, $19.95 a year (got a special offer at
MacWorld Expo). I wrote a check to them, value $19.95. Last week, I got
my bank statement, they take $23.95 from my bank instead of $19.95!
The check specifically said $19.95... So, some of you who paid $19.95,
may check your bank statement...

Sounds highly illegal to me.

You should also give your bank a call, and get a copy of the check. If
the check was modified by NeXTWORLD without your permission, I'd follow
up on it. I sort of doubt that your bank would accidentally cash the
check for such a specific number as $23.95 without a little help.

Very questionable business practice, if it's indeed true.
