[comp.sys.next] Improved

windemut@paris.ks.uiuc.edu (Andreas Windemuth) (03/19/91)

I have hacked around a little on Scott Hess' Background Application.
I added some functionality, some Unix support and, of course, some bugs.
It should be or soon appear on the archives at purdue and oregon state.

The ReadMe:

Background (2) Mar 16, 1991

This is an extended version of Scott Hess' simple but effective
Background Program. The program probably gained nothing in
beauty or elegance by my meddling, but it gained some new functionality.

You can load more than one image or tile to use as a background,
you can switch between them by hand or automatically with an
adjustable frequency. As an additional tool for changing your
screen background I have included a Unix-tool background
that allows to set a background from the command line or a shell
script. A shell script also provided called sysbackground can be
used to generate a default background from rc.local in this way:

#	Set default screen background
/usr/local/bin/sysbackground &

Like Scott Hess, I make absolutely no guarentees about Background,
especially not for putting sysbackground into your rc.local file.
The program is probably much buggier than the original version,
although I think I fixed a bug that sent my NeXT thrashing to death
if for some reason the image had zero height or width.

Again, you get what you pay for.

Enjoy,

		Andreas Windemuth
