[comp.sys.next] SUMMARY: R.T.F. to text/troff

lindner@cs.umn.edu (Paul Lindner) (03/23/91)

There is an excellent set of utilities for converting from Rich Text
Format to normal text or troff available for anonymous ftp from
indri.primate.wisc.edu in the directory /pub/RTF.

A specification of the protocol is there too.

Thanks go to Ed Vielmetti (emv@ox.com) for providing the answer quickly!

I wrote 'em, but I wouldn't call 'em excellent. Even the most advanced
convertor (rtf2troff) doesn't do things like handle tables, break long
output lines reasonably so you can edit the output, allow you to
compensate for different troff versions that understand different special
character escape sequences, etc.

Of course, the only reason I mention this is to be able to say that
a lot of that will be in the next release. :-)
