Since reading comp.sys.next I very impressed by the varied interests of NeXT users and by the flexibility of the NeXT machine. I'm thinking about buying a NeXTstation 8/105 to replace my Zenith SuperSport laptop, but have some questions (my apologies if this has already been covered): #1/ Can I send and receive NeXTmail from *home* without becoming part of uunet? In other words, I currently have dial-up VAX/internet access courtesy of the University of Maryland, but I am unsure about the possibilities/mechanics of uploading NeXTmail from my home slab to my VAX account. #2/ If #1/ is possible, is it relatively intuitive for the unix neophyte? #3/ If #1/ is *not* possible, is there at least an intuitive way to use the NeXT to send regular e-mail (i.eIo nd criticism of WordPerfect on the NeXT. Having myself never used WP on the NeXT, would anybody who *has* care to comment? #5/ Does anybody know if Soft PC is shipping? Is this program going to be good enough that for a minute I don't know I'm not using a mid-range 286 machine? #6/ On one of the U of M's cubes I used a neat program called "Topology Lab." Anybody know where this can be purchased, whether it is bundled for educational purchase, etc... #7/ By the way, those of you who have NeXTs, how often do you use NeXTmail, and do you really find it to be that great? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Please e-mail and I will summarize for the net :-) -- Katarina Kim Wong kkw@cscwam.umd.edu
