I have a NextStation (2.0 & '040) and I'd like to set up a newsfeed through my uucp host. Two questions: (1) Is C or B News easier to inslall? Since all I plan on doing is downloaded c.s.n. I don't need anything fancy. (2) I do not yet have the developer interface, and therefore will be unable to compile the News Software. If I have someone send it to me already compiled, will I be able to use it, or is it virtually impossible to install the software without compiling it on the machine on which it will be used? Thank~K Advance for all the Help!! Please respond to tony%cyrano@mrk.com

Use Cnews. For 1) It is easier to install, is faster than bnews by an order of magnitude in some things and more people are using it. It is also considered to be more advanced to some aspects. 2) Most of Cnews are shell scripts. I assume even the non-complete NeXT distribution at least has the Bourne shell, no? Then Cnews should work. Because Cnews is mostly shell scripts, it is easy to configure and also doesn't need a compiler (natch). I could send you the binaries for which my Cnews is compiled. I think you might need to patch some shells though, for which you may need some shell experience. If you can get them from someone directly on the net rather than using a long-distance UUCP line like me, go with them. '-) - Jiro Nakamaura jiro@shaman.com ps. Get the full version.
