I've recently purchased an 030 Cube and am trying to get a hayes compatible modem working with tip and uucp. The modem is a Viva 24, which is fully hayes compatible as far as I can tell. I've tried it with both a cable ordered from NeXTconnection and a mac modem cable. The symptoms I see are that when I have tip dial, it appears to be sending commands ok but the modem never goes off-hook. If I connect to the modem and then issue dial commands myself, everything is fine. I see the same thing with uucico. My problem is how to debug. When I use the -x99 option with uucico, I cant see the commands that uucico is sending the modem since uucico sends an E0 (don't echo commands). I've setup and debugged connections between two suns with uucico, but this is really strange. I'd almost say its the modem but I doubt it since I can operate it fine manually and I can see it responding to commands from uucico until the echo is turned off. Is there any way to pipe the connection between uucico or tip and cua to something so I can see whats really happening? This is on an 030 Cube with OS 1.0a (2.0 has been on order for four weeks from Computer Attic - why isn't NeXT shipping it?). Thanks in advance for any help.
