Ok ok ok. I'm sorry I posted the announcement of our Supercomputing seminars in net general. It was a moment of madness. I agree. It should have gone elsewhere. Now stop with the vitriol. I must say that I have received some very foul self-righteous mail-letters. Enough of that. One respondent complained of the cost of "all those phone calls" from one computer system to another. And just for my "moneygrubbing" advertisement. Seems abit odd to bring the cost of USENET into this as if the average USENET message is of high relevance and content. I've been on alot of networks, worldwide, and I must say that what I've seen so far (I've been here 5 months or so) is of the lowest content and is practically useless. Obviously the trivia on USENET can only be supported by the universities. If the true cost of running USENET vs its actual informational value were ever to be measured and announced to those paying the bills, I'm sure it would have been shut down long ago. Regardless, I will re-post my announcement somewhere else. You will be forced to read it again! (..so there...) I do have a general question to all those who read USENET. Do you ever have time to do any work? It seems to me that either you ignore USNET or you spend all your time entering trivia and watch it go around the net. Does anyone out there find USENET useful for their work (rather than their social life.) Who pays for it at your site. ? Do they know how its being used? Sorry for the flames... (No. I take that back. I'm NOT sorry.) -- [rchrd] = Richard Friedman Pacific-Sierra Research, 2855 Telegraph #415 Berkeley, CA 94705 (415) 540 5216 UUCP: {hplabs, ptsfa, dual}!well!rchrd
