There seems to be a 30 sec discrepancy between the time reported in the preference panel and that reported by date when using ntp. I have time set to automatic in the local panel, time service enabled in the Network Time configuration panel, and a single host that is synch'd to an internet time server designated as a clone time server. The time from date and the ntp "clone" server agree to 0.1 sec, but the time in the preference panel seems to drift from the value returned by date. It is initially correct after synching in the preference panel, but several hours later it may be off by as much as 45 secs.
