I would like to thank everyone for the response to my SCSI problem. I got the cube to see the drive and yes it was a problem with termination. You see I didn't have any (I'm used to IBM-PC st506 interface and termination it less critical than SCSI). Thanks, again. Now for the second problem. -When booting up I get: Waiting for drive to come ready ....................... Unable to read disk label SCSI Block in error = 0 (no valid label) -Then I get the messages: sd0(1,0) : sense key : 0x2 additional sense code : 0x4 -Also when I run builddisk I get: unknown disk name builddisk initialization failed build of /dev/sd0 aborted I assume that the errors about the label occur because the drive has not been formatted for the NeXT. I know to build the disk I have to have a disktab entry for it. I assume scsimodes will work on this disk and that after I run it I'll be able to create a disktab entry in the file. I would have run scsimodes yesterday when I fixed the termination problem but I couldn't find it. I did find the command to write a file system (wtfs) and I played around a little with the disk command but without scsimodes there wasn't much I could do. I have the formatter ver 1.2 but can't get it to my cube, I'm having problems with my serial connection to my PC via null modem using a program called Communicae. If I'm on the right track let me know and I'll let everyone know if I get the drive up and running this weekend after I use scsimodes, sdform, and builddisk. Have you come across any problems connecting SCSI devices (hard drive, scanner, etc.) to your NeXT computer (030 and 040, cube and slab)? If so, can you please e-mail to me a summary of the problem (symptoms) and fixes, if any. Please do not forget to include error messages if there was any. Also state the setup of your system and applicable version numbers. I am doing some research on problems with hooking up SCSI devices to the NeXT computer. I will post a summary to the net if anyone wants it. :-) Joe jchin@van-bc.wimsey.bc.ca -- ************************************************************** * "Kill the body and the head will die" (Hunter S.
