[comp.sys.next] Color Apps and GUI's

In general I agree that a GUI in monochrome , exspecially NeXTStep
is great (as long as it is on a monochrome monitor).Color monitors in general
have a hard time displaying black and white. The one NeXT ships with the
ColorStation ( a Phillips) definately has a problem with black and white. On
borders of windows the black line diverge to some other color (usually red)
and fonts don't have as high of a contrast as on a monochrome monitor either.
So color would help in this case, because if one picks colors that are not
that far apart in the RGB colorspectrum they don't diverge as much and one
gets a better contrast at borders (for those of you that don't believe me
try black and white on a color X station and the something like a black
background and red). So unless one shells out another 3k (that makes about 6k)
for a better monitor (and even then it isn't as nice as on a monochrome) colors
will be a necessity for some Apps on a ColorStation.
Personally I don't care about icons, they can be monochrome as long as they
wish.

Mike
