[ Thanks to everyone that has given me information about this, especially John Corey and Eric P. Scott. ] There is good news and bad news for anyone that wants to upgrade their DSP memory. First the good news: the DSP expansion price in the NeXT price list is for 32 24 bit words, not 32 bytes so the $195 actually gets you 96kb of SRAM. There's a lot more bad news. First of all, there is only room for on SIMM for the DSP. This means that you can only add one 96kb SIMM. If higher capacity SIMMs are ever available, though, the DSP will be able to use them (up to the 576kb limit of the DSP). Second: NeXT is not shipping DSP expansion memory. They expect to be shipping it soon, though. Third: There are no third party suppliers, even though NeXT would like to see them. I hope this answers everyone's questions. Aaron Harsh hal@eecs.pdx.edu
