[comp.sys.next] Optical drive noise

I have a cube with only an optical drive. After being disturbed once too
often at 2:00 in the morning by its routine cleanup, I began wondering if
there is a way to make the optical drive quieter. After all, there are
silencers for guns, right?

Does most of the nse from the optical drive come through the door, or
could some soundproofing be put around the drive. Would that cause a problem
with overheating or ventilation?

The optical drive would seem a lot more "sturdy" if the disks themselves
weren't so rickety and loose feeling and the drive was quieter. The floppy
drive on the new computers is very quiet and feels very solid and nice.

Also, does anybody know of a holder for the optical disks? Something like a
CD rack for storage and carrying would be perfect.

Of course, you could also change crontab so it does its cleanup at a
more sociable hour. . . .
