[comp.sys.next] PenPoint and Font Panel

dejnsen@caen.engin.umich.edu (Nik Anthony Gervae) (04/21/91)

Since there's been discussion on the subject, some folks out there might be
interested to know about a new book, called _The_Power_of_PenPoint_. It's
published by Addison-Wesley (of Bruce Webster's _The_NeXT_Book_ fame), and
written by Robert Carr and Dan Shaffer. So far it's a very high level book--
doesn't get nearly technical enough for even me. But it's a good read, and
certainly more comprehensive than the articles I've read so far (as any whole
book should be).

And now, a legitimate excuse for posting:

Has anyone noticed under 2.0 that the Font Panel (among others) *never*
ever becomes the key window? This has caused me some confusion--like, for
example, the Set button is still marked with a carriage return symbol! Set
your font, hit return, and a return promptly goes *into your document*. I
for one don't like this; maybe I'll bug_next about it.

We got this as a bug report for TouchType, too :-)

For the record, *never* is a little strong. It will become the key window
if you select the text in the Size field in the Font Panel, and then Return
works as advertised. There are advantages to keeping the Font Panel from
becoming the key window; it's a tossup.
