Hi! I guess the subject pretty much says what this is about. I would like to know what (or if) CAD (Engineering, Architectural, ...) programs are available for the NeXT. Recently a friend of mine was looking for some workstation & software combination to upgrade his PS/2 50 setup (10 MHz 286) to a more CAD-capable workstation, and we considered a number of machines, including HP9000/400's, DG Aviion's and DECstation 5000's. We also took a look at the Next, but at the time there was no CAD package available for the machine. We took a conservative aproach, and chose an ALR 386/33, with cache, big disk, hi-res video (1024x768). As Portugal as a small workstation market, we don't get usualy the best prices for the hardware, but the next was the cheapest of them (in a minimal configuration, however), and we are still waiting the oportunity to move to Un*x (or some version of it). (and the next is really a *nice* machine, i'm using one now) If someone has some info/experiences he/she would like to share, I would be most thankfull (also in relative perfomance issues of color versus monochrome, or wheater the NextDimension is needed for such a setup) Thanks again, -jp -- Jose Goncalo Pedro BITNET/Internet: jgp@fct.unl.pt +---------------------------------+ UUCP: jgp@unl.uucp | Departamento de Informatica +----------------------------------+ | Universidade Nova de Lisboa 2825 Monte Caparica, PORTUGAL | +--------------------------------------------------------------------+
