hi
i've just read the article in Forbes magazine about
NeXT Inc. and Steven Jobs, and i'm surprised at the sloppy
work.
she might be right about the future of NeXT, but her
analysis is not very objective or valid.
she compares the shipments of Sun to NeXT and states
that sales of NeXT are only 10% of Sun sales. this might be
so, but has she checked Sun's past.
since i have Sun's last three annual reports i decided
to check and this is what i found...
Sun was founded in 1982 and had the following unit
sales. i found the following figures in the 1989 report .
unit sales
year (thousands)
1985 5.9
1986 9.9
1987 24.6
1988 48.4
1989 80.7
so if NeXT did ship 4000 units in the last quarter, as
she suggests, i wouldn't count NeXT out yet.
stef
ps. i'm not putting Sun or their products down.
