Hi all. Well, I'm all set to buy a drive for my cube, I was hoping that the collective wisdom of the net could help me decide which drive to purchase. I've narrowed it down to three rather identical drives, but after my experience with the so called "SCSI" Conner CP-3100 I don't buy that "SCSI is a standard" stuff. It may well be, but there are some players out there who haven't figured that out, or don't care. If anyone has had any experience with the following drives or manufacturers and how they relate to Ne XT, I would be gratefull to hear all about it. And the contestants are....... MiniScribe 9380S 380MB 16ms 334MB formatted CDC 94171-376 376MB 17ms 330MB formatted Micropolis 1578 344MB 15ms 332MB formatted I would ideally like to score the MiniScribe as its the largest (marginally) and cheapest (the Micropolis is $100 more, the CDC $200 more), and at least as I recall they had a rather good reputation. Any and all comments/flames/etc are welcome - I don't want to end up with another Conner (read "scrapheap". -BTW, I learned today that not all drive manufacturers allow upgrading of disk firmware. Conner for example solders the PROMs to the controller board, so if you want to upgrade later you're outta luck. I wonder what prompts such a design?) I'm planning on ordering Friday or Monday, so please e-mail any responses, I'll summarize afterwords.
