[net.auto] Blackening my gas cap...

flip@osu-cgrg.UUCP (Flip Phillips) (01/25/86)

*** REPLACE THIS gascap WITH YOUR new gascap ***

I have a 83 VW GTI. The gas cap has turned a dull grey / white. I have
tried using Armor-All but to no avail... it just gets lighter again.

What should I do... oh oh what shall I do( besides buy a new one )?

I'm surprised you didn't experience the same phenomenon on all the
black vw trim. I had a similiar problem due to the wax from car washes
and the wax when I waxed my car.
There is a product (about 5 - 7 $) in a can that is specifically made
to restore the black color to the plastic.
I works but must be applied periodically.

Thanks to the good folks in net.auto, I discovered Black Chrome from
Turtlewax last winter. Tried it yet?

I have had the same problem with the black plastic on a Datsun Puslar.
It appears to happen only on the flat black plastic, not the plastic
which has been polished. Black shoe polish takes care of it fine.
