[comp.sys.next] Problems with color monitors: Answers

The earliest 17" Philips color monitors shipped included some which
were delivered out of adjustment. This explains why some of the
monitors have been generating complaints about fuzziness around the
edges of the screen and about poor contrast (the brightness is out of
adjustment). We had one at my campus.

The solution is to return the monitor to your supplier for an
adjustment.

NeXT is now aware of the problem and has implemented checks for all
monitors now shipping. With an adjustment, your monitor 
will be the kind of color monitor you would expect from NeXT.
