About "Digital Eye"; I recently received the "Software & Peripherals,
Spring 1991" catalong from NeXT, and I found the Digital Eye (tm)
product listed as two different items in the Data Acquisition and
Sound section:

1) "Color Digital Eye":

A frame grabber that captures 640-by-480 pixel single video frames
in 24-bit color and enters them into a NeXT computer through the DSP
port. It accepts NTSC, PAL, and SECAM color or balck-and-white
signals in composite or SVHS mode. Users can capture, crop, retouch,
edit, and store images as either TIFF or EPS files. $1,195.
	Available June 1991.
	Metasearch, Inc. (503) 238-5728

2) "Digital Eye":

A combination hardware and software package that lets users enter
and record still and moving NTSC video images on a NeXT computer.
It captures images from laserdisc players, video and still video
	cameras, and VCRs. $975
	Metasearch, Inc. (503) 238-5728

My question is: Does this mean that the "Digital Eye" only samples
the NTSC video signal in monochrome, and is already a released product,
and the "Color" digitial eye is a newer, soon-to-be-released enhanced
version? It seems like it... I hopes this helps. If you don't have
the catalog (I assume not, as of your posting), then ask NeXT to send
you one. It's chalked full of interesting h/w & s/w stuff!!

Oh, BTW, I don't own a NeXT, *yet*....

I managed to get a look at the spec sheet for the original Digital Eye, and
it mentioned being able to grab frames at 640x480 with 8 bits of greyscale. It
also mentioned be able to grab up to 15 frames/second of moving video, but it
sounded like that would be at a lower resolution.

From the descriptions you entered, it sounds like this might be even more
true of the Color Digital Eye -- calling it a "frame grabber" suggests that
they're not really planning to support full motion video at all.

Thanks for the additional info...
