I'd like to find out what other Saab Sonett III owners do about replacing the mufflers. This is the sportscar last made in 1974. It is so low to the ground that the mufflers are in the rear wheel wells, so they rust out in about 3 Chicago winters. I've not gone to a muffler shop in the past because of the rarity of the car and its unusual mufflers, but it cause $450 at the dealer for a new exhaust system 4 years ago (mufflers, resonaters, and pipes) and I'm sure it would be more expensive now. -- Joe Steffen, AT&T Bell Labs, Naperville, IL, (312) 979-5381

I had a fiberglass packed "thrush" type welded onto mine when the rear muffler blew out. It has a nice sound, fits nicely in the rear wheel well and is cheap to get replaced.
