There have been some articles which mentioned SLOW printing by WordPerfect for NeXT. This could actually be due to some bug in Release 2.0 OS. We had experienced extreme slowness with WordPerfect spitting PostScript into a spool file (process that is happing while the Print Panel is up). This problem was fixed as soon as we updated the OS to 2.1 release. So, if you think you are suffering from this, update the OS to 2.1. From our experience, WordPerfect printing (PS generation) is no slower than WriteNow for comparable text complexity and length. The slow printing problem under 2.0 only happened to a limited number of applications. For us, it only affected WordPerfect, and my own NextStep application for scientific use. The problem went away with 2.1. This is another reason that you should not believe the NeXT's suggested update policy (Most users need to upgrade when major updates are made, e.g., 2.0 -> 3.0). Everyone needs 2.1, in my opinion. --- Izumi Ohzawa [ 大澤五住 ] USMail: University of California, 360 Minor Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720 Telephone: (415) 642-6440 Fax: (415) 642-3323 NeXTmail: izumi@pinoko.berkeley.edu
