OK, it's all clear now, thanks to the billion who knew. For those who are in a similar situation, here's one of the many similar suggestions: ------- Forwarded Message To: Werle <kwerle@Bonnie.ics.uci.edu> Subject: Re: Should I leave my printer on? You can switch the printer off with /usr/etc/nppower off In my /etc/rc.local I have the line (sleep 15; /usr/etc/nppower off)& which turns the printer off at boot time. As soon as you send something to the printer it gets switched on automaticaly. But the printer won't get powered down afterwards. Perhaps you could get cron to do a nppower off. Thomas. ------- End of Forwarded Message Thanks again, net. I think I may write some little utils to do off-turning automatically. Kurt

My machine came with 2.1 and, a few seconds after printing, it goes silent again. I take this silence as assent, er, as powerlessness, but there doesn't appear to be any light or a voice that announces that THIS PRINTER IS POWERED OFF and I never saw a next laser on a previous version of the OS so I DON'T REALLY KNOW if what I mean by power off is what YOU mean by power off. c.f.waltrip Internet: <waltrip@capsrv.jhuapl.edu> Opinions expressed are my own.
