A friend of mine has an optical drive that will not accept any disk. When the machine is powered on, it will ask for a disk, but it feels just like it does before it asks for one; it physically resists insertion. We tried booting his machine off mine over ethernet, and then choosing mount from the 1.0a workspace manager menu, but this did not help. I just asked for the disk again, but the drive would not accept it. I believe that the last disk he had used in his machine before this happened was a double sided Canon MO-502M, but we don't know if this had anything to do with it. His machine is no longer under warranty, so we thought we'd ask if anyone has had a similar problem and found a fix. He said he remembered a posting from a ways back describing a similar problem, but it was apparently not in the comp.sys.next archives anymore. Anyone know about the sensor that detects insertion or anything? Patrick Hayes PS. If you email, send a carbon copy to zukowski@cis.ohio-state.edu Thanks!
