[comp.sys.next] oddity in Apple ad

citdem@UAVAX0.CCIT.ARIZONA.EDU (05/13/91)

I'm not an Apple person. Perhaps someone can offer some insight. I'm
looking at an Apple ad in the May 6th Computer World. One of the pictures
shows an Apple screen running A/UX. One window - CommandShell 1 - shows the
output of the "ls" command (apparently executed in root). One file is named
"nextunix". So, folks, what's this? (I know what I'd like it to be. I
know what it probably isn't. It could be pure coincidence. Or it could be
a sharp, barbed arrow aimed right at S. Job's rear end.) Would some kind
soul please set my speculative mind to rest.

That is "nextunix" not "NeXTunix". It just points to another sys file on the
A/UX system. I don't think it actually does anything useful.
  cricket.root 9 # more nextunix
  /unix
