[comp.sys.next] ZModem on the NeXT?

bard@jessica.stanford.edu (David Hopper) (05/17/91)

Hi ho, does anyone have sz/rz up and running? How about a comm program
that supports it (NOT I-Comm. This is the WORST comm program I have
ever used. Pretty bad zmodem implementation, too).

I've got the sz/rz source, but can't manage a compile. Seeing as I'm
as proficient at programming as a dead water beetle, I was hoping
someone could send me a successfully compiled set of binaries, or
perhaps an ftp site...

Thanx tons,

As the author of IComm, I tend to agree with your comment also. :-)
But please understand that I did put in a lot of effort and time too.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the many
people whom I've promised bug fixes in a "short" time, but has since been
overwhelmed by accumulated work (due to IComm), finals and projects.
This will continue to be so for the next two weeks. My cube is
also now in the shop with a dead optical drive; I have an optical
only cube from B-land.

My released of IComm was definitely premature.

Try "make bsd". You will probably get quite a bit of warning messages, but that doesn't matter.

Use it with tip and ~$ to pipe the rz/sz I/O.
Also, use the -1 option when using rz.

IComm uses rz/sz for its Zmodem :-)

Read the contents of the IComm executable file and you'll see...

Hey, what are you complaining about? It is not exactly like you had to
pay for I-Comm. I personally feel that it better than using tip and
faster than using Kermit, both free programs. If you want a polished program
try Microphone, if and when it is available.

These days, that seems to be a common method of beta testing.
It would, however, have been nice to use a resizeable window and a scrolling
view.

Warning: I_Comm may tamper with your loginwindow!
While using I_Comm yesterday for a file transfer my system froze
and after that I cannot get the loginwindow back. Had to reboot in
single user mode and use it from the console only.
Problem not solved yet. I am running 2.1 on a 400 NextStation.
Would welcome any expert advice.

Greetings,

I have sz, and rz working on my Station. I'll put the binaries in the
submissions directory on sonata.cc.purdue.edu.
