A quick plea for help here. Or maybe a plea for quick help... One of our users initialized his hard disk by mistake. He usually runs from his personal account, so he's used to the "Initialize" menu option only lighting up if there is a floppy disk to initialize. He happened to be logged into root last night though, and wanted to initialize a floppy disk, and selected the option while he had the hard disk selected instead of the floppy. Ouch. He then got a system panic, and powered down thinking that would clear things up. Well, of course when he powered back up he had no information on his hard disk to boot from. If we attached a second hard disk (with a complete system) to his machine, is there any chance that we could get his personal files back? We can replicate his system files easy enough, but we wouldn't be able to replicate any of his personal files. Both he and I expect this is not very likely, but we'd love to be proven wrong. - - - - - - - - Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@rpi.edu or gad@eclipse.its.rpi.edu ITS Systems Programmer (handles NeXT-type mail) Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Troy NY USA
