Could someone tell me what is involved in the contract that a school must sign before being allowed to sell NeXT computers to faculty? I'm on the faculty here and we have not yet entered into any official relationship with NeXT. I want to place an order for a NeXT but cannot until an agreement is reached between my school and NeXT. I was asked by the person in charge of these things here to try and find out exactly what is involved. Perhaps I should direct this inquiry directly to NeXT. Could someone tell me who to contact there about this sort of thing? Many thanks. -- =============================================================== David Carpenter dcarpent@sjuvax.UUCP St. Joseph's University dcarpent%sjuvax.sju.edu@relay.cs.net Philadelphia, PA 19131 ST_JOSEPH@HVRFORD.BITNET

I have this friend--yeah, that's it--and he is thinking about buying a NeXT. Now, say this friend gives his sister, who is attending a university, some money and the sister buys it (at a student discount) for my friend. What happens now? Can my friend get technical support? Do the NeXT police show up at my friend's door? Is there some sort of registration procedure that will involve a lie detector test :-)? Just, um, curious. -- News Administrator uunet!jarthur.uucp!aqdata!usenet aQdata, Inc. San Dimas, CA

I just learned the following information and thought I'd pass it on. Anyone who is at a college or university which doesn't have an agreement with NeXT, nor is collaborating with another school which does, can call NeXT directly and order a machine from them at the university price. I believe you call their telebusiness number, whatever that is.

I have been attempting to buy a NeXT at the Educational Discount for the past 4 months, have made at least 6 calls to two different sales representatives, at least 6 calls to the headquarters in Californina, all because the Institution at which I currently work has no sales contract. In all the varied conversations with these people there has never been the slightest hint that I could do this. I have therefore spent 2 months trying to get a contract agreement here at UNT and simultaneously pursuing my purchase through Columbia University, at which I am affiliated. You would think that NeXT would have said something, given that I am a highly motivated customer. This entire purchase process has caused me to lose 4 months of time I could have spent doing software development. I couldn't not respond to this...and you can bet I will find out IMMEDIATELY. -- ___________________________________________________________________________ Douglas Scott doug@dept.csci.unt.edu

I called NeXT and asked this very question. They told me 'no dice' and referred me to BusinessLand at the regular price. Jeff Adams adams@ucscl.ucsc.edu

I'm very interested in buying a NeXT computer, as the deals for students are quite nice. What I want to know is if the NeXT users think it is worth me waiting to earn the extra money for a cube, or should I just go with a pizza box, make sure I have enough hard-drive and can get the laser within a short time. Or, should I break myself for a bottom-end cube just to prehaps save more money in three years when I'll want a RISC graphics co-processor or another item along those lines. I would like very much to also hear what everyone is doing with their NeXTs... so, if you're doing something interesting (maybe that's too broad), I'd love to hear about it. Thank you.
