[comp.sys.next] Can the NeXT be used as a FAX server?

rgc@wam.umd.edu (Ross Garrett Cutler) (05/26/91)

Hello,
	Can a NeXTstation (running 2.1) with a FAX modem attached be used as
a FAX server for non-NeXT computers? Specifically, we would like to be
able to send a FAX (via a NeXT) from any one of our PCs (which all run PC-NFS)
and from UNIX systems (Suns and DECs). There are some packages for the Sun
that allow you to do this in a very nice way: you set the FAX up as an lpr
printer; if you send it PostScript, then it digitizes it and sends it off;
if you send it text, if first converts it to PS and then digitizes it.
It also handles mail (e.g. mail it to fax@sun..., with a subject of the
number to dial).

Can it be done? Thanks very much...Ross.
