[comp.sys.next] New 1 Gig. 3.5" drive on the market

slfields@uokmax.ecn.uoknor.edu (Scott L Fields) (05/31/91)

Sorry, but my previous post was a litle erroneous in that the manufacturer is
actually Micropolis. My apologies to Microprolis for the mistake. Anyway,

Coming soon:

Micropolis 2112 1 Gig. 3.5" hard disk drive

10 ms access time
Typical power consumption of 12 Watts
Utilizes SCSI-2 interface
up to 10 Mbyte/s transfer rate
Supports command queuing
256 Kbyte command buffer/data cache

Initial shipments to start in 3rd quarter of this year and expected prices
of about $1/Mbyte in 1992

No release pricing was given.

Well, sounds like a great product and I still think that Next should look
into a portable with this drive coming out. All they really need now is a
suitable display technology for a megapixel display. Maybe Electolumiscent.
