Hi! For those who are keeping track of arrival dates of 400Mb NeXTstations, I got mine on the 26th of February. I am now trying to connect my modem to it, but I can't get it working. My modem is an Avatex 1200hc Hayes-compatible modem which I've had for about 4 years. I made the cable described in the Network and System Administration manual, and all connections seem to be fine. However tip does not work. I've tried to open two shells, su'ed to root in both cases, started 'cat >>/dev/cua' in one, and 'cat </dev/cua' in the other (I used ioctl beforehand to set /dev/cua to 1200bps, 8 bits, raw). No matter which command I type (AT for instance), it gets echoed back 8 or 10 times in the second window (fewer times if the command is long). The last occurrence is usually incomplete, and the word 'ERROR' also appears. I presume that the error comes from the modem, but in no case does 'OK' appears as it should if the command had gotten to my modem intact (even if repeated). I am also unable to get it to dial. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Does the problem lie with me, the cable, the modem or my NeXTstation (the modem works fine with my Atari ST, as this post shows). I will welcome any suggestion. Thanks in advance. /**************************************************************************** /* Patrice Belleville patrice@bart.cs.mcgill.ca * /* --- these opinions are mine, and so are all the typos. --- /****************************************************************************

Hi!, I have the following problem with my modem: I can't use tip or kermit to upload/download files. If I try to take files all I get are empty files and errors; with kermit I get "internal error 18". I have a '030 Cube running OS 2.0 and a dove-fax modem. The modem works fine as a fax but I can't use it to take files. I have tried other modems and I get the same results. Is there anyone in Net-Land that can pour some light into this problem? (I'm using port ttyda [/dev/cua] but it's the same if I use ttydb) Thanks in advance! -- H e c t o r H e r r e r o merlin@mtdca.att.com
