Let's not forget that during the government's "let's run the auto industry" craze, they instituted mandatory "fleet mileage" figures. That is, decrees that stated, "The average mileage of all cars you sell shall be X, or it'll cost ya." Note the keyword "sell." This means that GM still blows it if everybody buys Cadillac Barges, even if GM makes fifty models that get >40mpg. BTW, what's the deal with 85mph speedometers? I thought that that asinine law got repealed in 1982? Did they just repeal it for foreign cars and not domestic? Also, WRT the 55mph speed limit, I'd rather see an unenforced 55mph limit than an enforced 65mph limit. Now in places like Iowa, where my mom once got a ticket for going 57... :-( -Ed Horch
