Many thanks to everyone who has helped so far. In the age-old tradition of wasting net.bandwidth, here is the debugging script I get when I call the other system. I've deleted the phone number and password so that I can spare you the trouble of testing the connection for me. ;-) As you can tell from the script, I am calling a T2500 with a T2500. We are both using UUCP g spoofing as can be seen from the CONNECT FAST/UUCP in the log. That is what makes me very confused about the whole thing. For safety's sake, I have a P_ZERO at the beginning of the script. Nope, it doesn't do anything. The ATZ2 resets my T2500 to my dial-out mode. It's the exact same one I use to phone UUNET and everything goes fine, so I'm pretty sure I don't have a parity problem on my end. I don't need to use P_ZERO for UUNET or any of my other feeds. Stranger and stranger. Batcomputer is a major UUCP feeder for the Ithaca area. I can't think of anything else. Oh yes, the test file is a simple mail file to nobody@batcomputer.uucp with "Subject: Test", null message body. Nope, no hidden CONTROL-S's anywhere. :-( Again, many thanks to everyone for their offers of help. So far I think I am an isolated case. But neither NeXT Tech Support nor Batcomputer's sysadmin could help me..... I hope someone has a secret "oh but did you try the #(@#$ flag?" :-) Talking about flags, how do I test the connection using UUCP F protocol? I want to see if things will work with that. - Jiro Nakamura jiro@shaman.com ------ Begin copious debugging script ---------- shaman# /usr/lib/uucp/uucico -r1 -x10 -sbatcomputer root batcomputer (6/3-18:17-2681) DEBUG (Local Enabled) root batcomputer (6/3-18:17-2681) NO CALL (RETRY TIME NOT REACHED) RETRY TIME (600) NOT REACHED root batcomputer (6/3-18:17-2681) continuing anyway (debugging) finds (batcomputer) called root batcomputer (6/3-18:17-2681) continuing anyway (DEBUGGING) getto: call no. cua for sys batcomputer Using DIR to call Opening /dev/cua login called ABORT ON: BUSY wanted """" got: that send "P_ZERO" wanted """" got: that send "AT" wanted "OK~3" AT OKgot: that send "ATZ2" wanted "OK" >ATZ2 OKgot: that send "\dATDPw555-1212" DELAY wanted "CONNECT~75" >ATDPw555-1212 CONNECTgot: that send "\r" RETURN wanted "ogin:~10" FAST/UUCP Trying THEORY...
