I received several responses about the printer turnoff problem. The most common response was use 'nppower off'. This works as long as /usr/etc is in your path. To avoid having to do this continually, since it will be left on after each print job, Dave Nanian sent me a cron script which will turn the printer off automatically every 30 minutes. This script was originally posted by Eric Bennett in comp.sys.next. Dave modified it a little bit to improve its performance. If you want it, I would contact Dave at dnanian@uw.com. You can also install 'nppower off' in /etc/rc, so that the printer turns off upon boot up. Funny, I seem to remember reading some NeXT literature that said it was automatically off until it needed to print. Maybe that was the situation with 1.0. Thanks to everyone for their quick responses. Jim Beauchamp ps -- I also got lots of responses about Communicae -- mostly positive. Consensus is its not perfect but still very good and the best thing going. I received NO responses to my SoundWorks 1.5 record mode question.
