Original problem: trying to mount an optical disk or od file system from a cube to a nextstation. root seems to be the only one able to do this. Solution: well, after talking to NeXT and receiving replies through news, the problem exists that a non-privileged user cannot mount a remote internal optical file system. reasons unknown at this time. so, i opted for the following: 1. exported unprivileged users' accounts from their own machines. 2. mounted their accounts on the cube with the optical including rw priv. now they will have to log on to their own accounts on the optical machine to do backups but it's at least a fix for now. note: our users are able to log on anywhere since we are all networked users... kelley wittmeyer dept of atmospheric science colorado state university
