[comp.sys.next] Need help sampling sounds from portable CD player

rtidd@kingpin.mitre.org (Randy Tidd) (06/10/91)

I'm trying to sample sounds from my Sony portable CD player with no
luck. I remember this thread a while back, and tried everything
mentioned in it, with no luck. Basically I bought a cord from Radio
Shack that is 1/4" stereo on both sides; I plugged one end into the
headphone jack on my CD player, and the other end into the microphone
jack on the back of my monochome MegaPixel display. With the volume
turned all the way down and running from batteries, I get basically
digitial noise at about half the scale in the recording application I
use (SoundEdit I think).

I remember someone saying I needed an "attenuating adapter" from Radio
Shack. I went to 3 different Radio Shacks, and I only got one guy
that didn't give me a funny look. He showed me a small black cylinder
about 2" long with coax connections on both sides (maybe it's for
video or something).

In any case, I haven't had any luck at all. Can someone who's done
this give me specific help?

Thanks
