Hi NeXTlanders! I've decided it's time to abandon a dead hardware platform (Mac) and get a real machine! I'm curious about a few things, though. I'd really appreciate any help... It seems that the NeXT's don't use an external cache of any kind, while there is a 4K cache on the 68040? I'm confused as to how the 68040 can operate at 25MHz without imposing a LOT of wait states because of the lack of a big (32K or 64K) external cache at 40 ns. Also, for anyone that's had any experience with SoftPC on the '040 NeXT's, how fast is it? What isn't included on the 105 Meg hard drive because there's not enough space, and how can you get the missing apps? Finally, is it better to go with a NeXTStation and laser printer, or hold out for a NeXTStation Color? I thought the NeXTStation Color would only cost $5000, but it seems that it's closer to $6000. Also, is it feasible to run a NeXT with only a 105 Meg drive, or is a larger one pretty much mandatory?
