[comp.sys.next] Postscript fonts and swapfile woes

shanega@athena.mit.edu (Shane G. Artis) (06/15/91)

Hi, I have a few questions for the net community.

1) Other than the PD and sharware fonts on sonata.cc.purdue.edu in the
pub/next/misc directory, are there any PostScript type 1 or 3 fonts
available in the public domain? They need not already be in
NeXT format, if they are reasonably close. If people send me pointers
I will summarize, and if I get them working on my NeXT I'll post
    them to the archives.

2) Occasionally I run Scene or Icon or some other 'leaky' program and
my swapfile grows quite large, consuming lots of disk space.
Rebooting reduces the swapfile to the lowat mark, but is there
any safe and standard way to do this without logging out as
myself? (i.e. I don't want to log out and log back in as root).
    I am on a not-networked 2.0 68030 NeXT (12 MB of memory). Ideally
I would like to su to root in a Terminal window and run
mach_swapon or some such program to do the job (can't get mach_swapon
to do what I want though).

Thanks,

Shane
