I was just given an 1980 Oldsmobile Diesel station wagon. Even though the oil was changed every 3000 miles and fuel filter every 10,000 miles, it is on its second engine and third injection pump. Does a fellow Olds diesel owner have any suggestions as to how I can maximize its useful life? -- Howard G. Page AT&T BTL, HO 3D-534, +1 201 949-0366, ..!ihnp4!houem!hgp

(As stated in the previous discussions about the merits and shortcomings of diesel engines.) I'm not sure if it would make much difference, but when I used to work in our local service station, most of our diesel-engine customers had their fuel filters changed with EVERY service job. -- +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+ Tim Thompson 414 Morton Hall Ohio University Athens, Ohio 45701 ihnp4!{amc1,cbdkc1,cbosgd,cuuxb}!oucs!tim Disclaimer: If the University finds out what I'm doing, they probably couldn't care less. +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+

Page AT&T BTL, HO 3D-534, +1 201 949-0366, ..!ihnp4!houem!hgp Maximize the usefulness of an Olds diesel? I would recommend putting it out in the back yard and using it for a chicken coop. A friend of mine has the same station wagon, and he is also on his second engine (supplied and installed free by Oldsmobile, by the way). The Olds diesel V8 was a converted gasoline engine that couldn't stand the strain of diesel operation. It was one of GM's really big mistakes, and they are still paying for it. The only saving grace in your situation is that you paid about what the vehicle is worth. Jim Beckman - AT&T-ISL, Middletown, NJ mtx5w!jeb
